It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Gloria Jean Lathrop, 83, on September 16, 2026, at Ocean View in Falmouth, her loving family by her side.

Born on April 5, 1943, in Portland, ME, Gloria grew up in Westbrook, attended all Westbrook schools and spent most of her adult life living and raising her family in South Portland and Cumberland Foreside. She married Lloyd L Lathrop Jr on March 5, 1966. They were married for 52 years and together they had two children, a daughter, Terri (Lathrop) Pizzo (married to Joey Pizzo), and a son, Lloyd Lathrop III (married to Amy Lathrop). They had four grandchildren, Adrienne Pizzo, Kenzie Pizzo, Lloyd Lathrop IV, and Luke Lathrop. Family was everything to Gloria; she just cherished her children and grandchildren, and we all felt it!

Gloria went back to school at a later age to earn a BS in nursing, then going on to her employment at Maine Medical Center. She loved school and she loved her job. She also loved to serve. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, she served in many capacities through her local church, she was a Blue Birds and Camp Fire Girls leader, and she volunteered in her children’s schools in many different ways as well.

Recreationally, Gloria loved to play tennis. She also loved to travel. In fact, she married the two by traveling around the world to attend grand slam tennis tournaments! (Although all who knew her would agree, her favorite sport was shopping!) Whether it was traveling, hitting the tennis courts, or enjoying the company of her family, friends, and beloved dogs, she lived each moment to the fullest.

Gloria’s life was a quiet, gentle testimony to the gospel of Christ Jesus our Lord. Through blessed times and through times of sorrow, she truly possessed joy and peace which surpasses all understanding that can only be had in him (Philippians 4:7).

Gloria will be deeply missed by all who knew her…her sweet loving ways…her infectious smile and laugh.

Funeral services will be held at a date to be determined where friends and family will gather to celebrate Gloria’s beautiful life and the love she shared with all of us. Further details will be shared as arrangements are finalized. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gloria’s memory to the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center.

Gloria was preceded in death by her father, Lloyd Clark, her mother, Mary Clark, her brother, Bob Clark, her husband, Lloyd Lathrop, and her granddaughter, Kenzie Pizzo.
