Obituary

Gladys Currie Dyer, Born in Portland on July 21, 1920. Passed away peacefully on October 5th, 2012. Gladys grew up in South Portland, the daughter of Blanche and Edward Currie and graduated from South Portland High School in 1938. Married Albert D. Dyer of Westbrook on May 29, 1947and lived in Westbrook for 38 years. The Dyers moved to Gorham in 1984. Mrs. Dyer moved back to Westbrook in 2007 residing in Larrabee Heights. Since 1952, the Dyers enjoyed their summers at their cottage on Pequawket Lake in Limington, Me. Mrs. Dyer worked as a secretary for the Portland Coach Company and then for S.D. Warren Paper Company. She was a member of the Westbrook Fire Auxiliary, and a member of the Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church. Gladys and her husband Al loved to ballroom dance, and were founding members of the group who organized "The Society for the Preservation of Ballroom Dancing", both serving for many years on the Board of that organization. She was also a member of the Westbrook Seniors. Mrs. Dyer was predeceased by her loving husband Albert D. Dyer also of Westbrook, and a sister Dorothy Currie Leighton of South Portland. She is survived by a son, David A. Dyer, his wife Judith and Granddaughter Angela of Mason Ohio; Daughter Nancy Plowman Sandreuter of Wilmington MA; Grandson Scott Plowman and his partner Lisa Kennard, and Great Grandson Ian King of Westbrook; Grandson Nathan Plowman, and his wife Melissa and Great Granddaughters Kylie Marie and Natalie Jean of Wilmington, MA; Sister Evelyn Woodbury and Husband John of South Portland, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visiting hours will be from 11 AM to 1 PM Thursday followed by a funeral service at 1 PM at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook.  Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.  On line condolences may be expressed at blaisandhayfuneralhome.com.
