Gilbert “Gil” Guevin, 76, passed away on April 26, 2026, due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease. A longtime resident of Windham, Gil was residing at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Scarborough at the time of his passing.
Gil was born in Westbrook, Maine, to Irene (Demers) Guevin and Armand Guevin. He was a graduate of Westbrook High School and proudly went on to serve in the United States Navy, where he began his lifelong trade as an electrician. Following his military service, Gil dedicated 38 years of hard work to Central Maine Power, retiring in 2011. He was deeply passionate about organized labor and his role within the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), where he served with distinction as Chief Union Steward. A strong believer in self-improvement, Gil earned his bachelor’s degree in business by attending night classes after long workdays—an achievement that reflected his determination and grit.
Gil was first married to Lucille (Zoll) Guevin in 1972. They shared many loving years together until her passing in 2006. In 2008, Gil found love again and married Barbara (Doyle) Guevin who he was married to until the time of his passing.
Gil was predeceased by his wife Lucille; his five siblings, Norman, Donald, Muriel “Babe,” Richard “Dickie,” and Maurice “Moe” Guevin; and his niece, Heather Guevin.
He is survived by his daughter, Nicole Marston, and her husband, Lee, and his grandsons, Noah and Trip; his son, Eric Guevin, and his wife, Nicole, and their daughter, Marissa; Ryan Edwards and his wife, Whitney, and their children, Ryder and Rowyn; and Kevin Edwards and his wife, Danika, and their children, Kylie, Krew, and Kash. Gil is also survived by his many nieces and nephews which he deeply adored.
Gil was a devout Catholic, a man of integrity, and someone who always did the right thing—even when it was difficult. He was known as a champion of the underdog, standing up for those who needed a voice and living his life with humility, strength, and quiet leadership.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Barron Center Day Program, the Veterans’ Home of Scarborough, and Affinity Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
Visiting hours will be held on April 30, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Dolby, Blais & Segee Funeral Home in Westbrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on May 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Hyacinth Church in Westbrook, followed by burial at St. Hyacinth Cemetery.
Gil will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
