GORHAM – Gilbert A. Bineau, 95, passed away on November 19, 2018, with his family by his side, after a long and active life. He was born in Manchester, NH on St. Patrick's Day 1923, and attended Manchester schools. He served with the U.S. Army in the Philippines during WWII. After the war, Gilbert married his high school sweetheart, settled in Manchester, and started his own construction company. He moved to Maine in 1959 and worked for several large construction firms as a construction superintendent and project manager doing large commercial jobs including projects at USM and Maine Medical Center. He had resided in Gorham since 1962. Gilbert was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, snowmobiling, and spent many hours in the saddle trail riding with his daughter on their two horses. He was a HAM radio operator – K1LMJ – for over 60 years and loved anything to do with electronics, but his true passion was restoring and flying his antique planes. He loved participating in "Fly-Ins" and won awards for flying the longest distance. Limington Harmon Airport was his "second home". Gilbert was devoted to his family, and though he was a quiet man of few words, he was famous for his love of sweets, particularly apple pie. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, Quiet Birdmen, Windham Gorham Rod and Gun, American Legion Post 62, Elks Lodge 188, the Yankee Radio Club, ARRL, and a lifetime member of the NRA. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Yvette Pierce, brother Dr. Armand Bineau, and a great-grandson, Waylon St. Onge. He is survived by his wife of 72 years Cecile (Plante) Bineau; two daughters, Suzanne Rokowski and her husband Joseph and Judith St. Onge and her husband Robert; four grandchildren, Lauren Farley Bryant, Kristen Wescott, Janna Leigh, and Justin St. Onge and his wife Kelly; 13 great-grandchildren.
