WESTBROOK—Gerald Marion, 96, passed away on May 26, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Gerald was born in Newton Center, MA on December 15, 1921, a son of Harold and Anne (Tozier) Marion. Gerry attended schools in Springfield, MA and Westbrook, ME and was a graduate of Westbrook High School. After graduation, Gerry worked alongside his brother in the oil business before enlisting in the United States Navy. He proudly served his country during World War II, on the USS Bennington, an aircraft carrier in the South Pacific and was a recipient of the Imperial Order of the Golden Dragon. Upon being honorably discharged after five years in the Navy, Gerry earned his business degree in 1947 from Babson College and shortly thereafter married Beverly Sinclair. They were married for 70 loving years before Beverly's passing four months ago. Beverly and Gerry made their home and raised their family in Westbrook. Gerry spent his career working for Metropolitan Life Insurance. Upon retirement, he continued to work for the Maine Turnpike Authority. Gerry was a member of multiple organizations such as the Veteran's Association, Metropolitan Life Insurance, Saccarappa Masonic Lodge #86 AF & AM, the American Legion Stephen Manchester Post 62, past Chairman of Regents of the Walker Memorial Library and served as a councilman for the city of Westbrook Maine. With an appreciation for nature and love for the seasons, Gerry took pleasure in exploring the Maine outdoors. An avid hunter and fisherman, Gerry was a Registered Maine Guide and a Certified Maine Tree Farmer. He especially enjoyed spending time at the family camp on Sebago and his annual trips to Enoch Brook with a special group of friends. Gerry was a happy family man who will be remembered for his quick wit, friendly disposition, generous spirit and kind heart. He is survived by his children, Peter Marion and his wife, Vicki, of Windham; Julie Marion of Portland; and his grandchildren, Elliot Bradbury of Biddeford, Annie Brett and her husband, Michael of Portland, Oregon, Dan Marion of Scarborough, Sara Smith and her husband, Matt of Norfolk, Virginia; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Beverly Marion; and siblings, Ned Marion, Margaret Torrey, and Janet Metcalf. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Birchwoods at Canco for their compassion and exceptional care of their father. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 12 noon at the Westbrook Chapel of Dolby Blais & Segee, 35 Church St., Westbrook, ME 04092. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Westbrook. At Gerry's request, in lieu of flowers, please perform an act of kindness and respect for someone in his memory.
