George E. Walker, loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather passed away at the Gorham House on Tuesday, October 2,2024. George was born in Westbrook on February 15, 1936, to Helen M. Jensen Walker and grew up on Cumberland Street and attended Westbrook Schools. After his school years, George had many jobs. He worked at the A&P Store in Westbrook, delivered oil for Hughes Oil and Pride Oil and worked at Robicheaws Service Station all while working his full-time job at S.D. Warren. George spent the majority of his years on the paper machines where he was well respected. George was also a member of the Army National Guard from 1953-1956. George met his wife Dorothy one night in Portland on Congress Street when he and a friend followed Dorothy and her sister home from work. George and Dorothy started dating shortly after and married on July 1st, 1955, in Portland. They built the family home on Cumberland Street in 1964. Together they had 4 children, Debra, Linda, Scott and Dianne (who predeceased him in 1968). George was fortunate enough to retire early. This allowed him, Dorothy and the family to spend more time at the family camp in Denmark. He and Dorothy never missed an opportunity to travel together to Canada, California, Hawaii and many trips Las Vegas. The 65 years of marriage before Dorothy's passing (September 29, 2020) were filled with love and lots of family time. George enjoyed boating, fishing, snowmobiling, and time outside in the yard with his brother Howard who also helped build the family camp in Denmark. He was a 50 year plus member of both Eastern Star and a 32-degree Mason of Scottish Rite Free Masonry. George was also a member of the Shriner's Oriental Band in which he traveled to participate in many parades. Anyone that knew George knew he was extremely humble, honest, fair, generous and had an admirable work ethic. George was always willing to help family and friends with anything they needed. A ride, advice, home projects, car shopping, he was always there. George was very social and enjoyed many years of morning coffee with the boys at River's Edge Deli. George also enjoyed his many years of Monday morning breakfasts at IHOP with his dear friend John Johnson. The last few years he enjoyed his Wednesday breakfasts at Mr. Bagel in Westbrook. George sure loved his extra toasted garlic bagel with garlic cream cheese and ice coffee almost every day. We, your children and grandchildren have been blessed to call you dad and grampie, and we are so grateful for all that you taught us and all that you did for us. We love you and you will always be the BOSS!! George is survived by his children, Debra A, Moore, Linda J. Herald (Mark), Scott A. Walker (Audrey) he was predeceased by his daughter Dianne in 1968.
