George H. Vaillancourt, our beloved Uncle, died peacefully at this residence at Atria Kennebunk on October 27, 2014.  George celebrated his 100th birthday in July.   George was born and raised in Westbrook,   the son of Amedee and Dina LaPointe Vaillancourt.  He graduated from Westbrook schools and Washington College of Law in Washington, DC where he earned his law degree in 1938. George was employed at the Department of Justice for four years before enlisting in the Army.  He served as investigator with the Military Police section at Fort Monroe, Virginia and a clerk with the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Forces in Northern France during World War II.  He was later discharged in 1946. George worked his entire career for the Department of Justice in Washington DC.  He married MaryEllen Shepard in 1968.  Silver Springs, Maryland became their home after retirement.  They lived a very active retirement traveling to Europe and Canada where they owned a home in Nobel, Ontario.  Both enjoyed opera and symphony music being season ticket holders in Washington and New York. After his wife's death in 2000, George returned to Maine to be near his family.  At this time he became a resident at Atria. George is predeceased by his parents, his wife of thirty two years MaryEllen Shepard and a brother Charles Vaillancourt. He is survived by his niece Helen and Jeffrey Runnels.  He nephews, Roger and Opal Vaillancourt, Norman and Marie Vaillancourt, and David and Carmel Vaillancourt. There will be no visiting hours, A funeral mass will be held Thursday, October 30th, at 10:00 AM, at St. Anthony's Church.  Interment will be at a later date.  Online condolences can be expressed at blaisandhayfuneralhome.com.
