George Richard Johnson, 74, formerly of South Portland, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 7, 2012, after a long illness. He was born in Portland, the son of Stanley and Eleanor (McDonald ) Johnson.  He was raised in Portland and graduated from Deering High School. He worked for Merrill's Transport Co. for 30 years before retiring.  He enjoyed NASCAR ,  rat rods, and antique car shows.' He was predeceased by his wife Carrie L. Johnson. He is survived by his daughters, Stacy and husband Steve Shugars of Westbrook, and Julie and her husband Rick Jensen of North Port, FL; step children Sadie Ellis and her companion David of  Portland, and Ronnie Moran of Tampa, FL; grandchildren Michael Shugars of Scarborough, Kaitlynne Shugars of Westbrook, Tim Estes of California and a Kristy Estes of Gray. Donald Alward of Avon and Carrie Kenney of Scarborough; his brother Robert and his wife Judy Johnson of Boil Springs, SC.
