Obituary

GORHAM—George Frederick Goriss Jr., 52, of Gorham, died in a motorcycle accident on Wednesday, November 2, 2016. George was born in Meriden, CT on September 24,1964, a son of George Goriss Sr. and Claire Goodrich. At the age of 13, his family moved to Machias where he attended Washington Academy. Upon his graduation, George went on to serve his country in the United States Coast Guard. While in the Coast Guard, he was stationed in Kodiak, AK, Chatham, MA and on the Duane in South Portland. George attended SMVTI (now SMCC) where he earned his certificate in building and construction. While at SMVTI, George met the love of his life, Tracie Magoon, and they were married on January 19, 1992. Together they made their home in Gorham, raising their two daughters, Hannah and Emily. George spent his career working in building and construction and worked for the Catholic Diocese, Durkee Builders, was self-employed through his business Goriss Construction, and most recently, worked for E.S. Boulos as a warehouse supervisor. Some of George's favorite pastimes included hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and trapping. He was a jack of all trades and enjoyed tinkering on hot-rods, working in his vegetable garden, tending his chickens, and loved cooking in the kitchen. He spent the summer of 2016, riding his motorcycle with his close friends and father. A proud member of the NRA, George had a tough guy exterior, with a soft heart. He was forever grateful for the kidney transplant his special friend, Jennifer Geel gave him two years ago.
