Obituary

Faith with action was Geneva's hallmark— Geneva practiced her faith. Geneva Mae Milton Collins, born September 13, 1928, was the eldest child of Robert and Daisy Milton, along with siblings Richard Milton and Myrna Cook. Geneva was a devoted wife to her husband Frederick, mother of 6, grandmother of 17, and great-grandmother. Geneva was a longtime Cub Scout Mother. Her cub scouts cherished the pineapple upside-down cake she prepared for weekly meetings. Geneva was also a longtime Girl Scout Leader and received the Gold Star award for her achievement.             While a student at Westbrook High School, Geneva worked at SD Warren, and continued her employment while her husband fought with the Marines in WWII.             In 1952, Geneva and Fred started their family.  While the family was still young, they moved to the farm to be her mother's caregiver. After her mother's passing, the farm became Rocky Hill Manor, a residential home. Many of Geneva's past schoolteachers became part of her residential family. Geneva operated the 16-bed home for over 25 years.             Geneva was thrilled when Fred discovered relatives in Sanford. All the Greniers became close friends. She was a true "Red Hatter" and a loyal "TOPS" believer. Even when she moved into a nursing home, she looked after her newfound friends like a mother hen.             Geneva and Fred were married 67 years. Those were years that brought tremendous change to America. Geneva was part of that change, as she instilled in all a love of country and inspired others to live an upright life. Her dedication to her church and church family has deep roots. It will be difficult to fill this strong woman's shoes. Geneva passed away on April 8, surrounded by family. In her last days, Geneva struggled to wait for the great-grandchildren that are to arrive in a few short months. Geneva is survived by her husband, Fred, and their children: Stephen, Gary, his wife Sue, David, his wife Julia, Elizabeth, John, his wife Kelly, Martha, and all their children. Geneva leaves behind a sister, Myrna, and many descendants, including a niece, Nancy, and she cherished each and every one. A service and reception will be held Saturday, April 16 at 11 AM at Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church. Supplementary potluck dishes welcome.
