Gary Alan York, of Westbrook, passed away peacefully at his home on August 12, 2026, at the age of 73.

Born in Portland, Maine, on September 15, 1952, Gary was the beloved son of the late George H. York, Jr. and Gloria A. Beaudoin.

He grew up in the Portland area and earned a Bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Southern Maine.

Gary was an honorably discharged, disabled Army Veteran who proudly served for 16 years, both stateside and overseas, earning multiple medals for his service to his country.

Gary found great joy in fishing, camping, history, reading, baseball, and spending time at Sebago Lake. Above all, he cherished time with his family, especially traveling together to Hawaii, where he created countless treasured memories.

Gary was a dedicated member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, and the 40 & 8, where he held multiple leadership roles, including serving as Commander. He was also a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His commitment to service extended into his community, where he volunteered at the Veterans nursing home and supported numerous charitable causes.

Gary shared 52 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, the late Roxanna York of Westbrook. Their life together was a testament to love, commitment, partnership, and family.

He is lovingly remembered by his son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Courtney York of Plymouth, Massachusetts; his daughter and son-in-law, Angele and Michael Celeste of Windham; his cherished grandchildren, Logan York, Aria Celeste, and Emerie Celeste; as well as extended family members and many dear friends.

A service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on August 21, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 755 River Road, Windham, Maine, with burial following at Woodlawn Cemetery in Westbrook.

Gary will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his family and community. He leaves behind a legacy of service, love, and countless memories that will live on through the people whose lives he touched. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
