Obituary

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart to share the passing of Gary Cassidy, 68, of Standish, on July 18, 2022. He passed peacefully at home with his beloved wife Deb and puppy Bella by his side. Gary was the son of the late James W. Cassidy and Helen F. Latini. He grew up in East Deering and graduated from Portland High School in 1972. Gary was fortunate to have many childhood friends that remain his dear friends for 60+ years. He made a lot of other friends along his way in life, especially through his career. At a young age Gary would work with his brother Jim and his father on weekends to start to learn the trade of an electrician. In 1981 when his father passed, Gary got his Masters License and took over the family business which he ran for more than 40 years. In 2011 Gary was devastated by the loss of his brother and partner Jimmy. His nephew Gordon (Bones) stepped in to help and begin to learn the trade. When Gary retired he loved having conversations with Ant (Latini) about his electrical jobs. They would sit for hours talking and working out possible solutions when an issue would come about and he would provide any advice he had. Gary was very proud of his accomplishments and keeping his father's legacy alive. In 1971, he met his soul mate and the woman of his dreams Debbie. They were childhood sweethearts and together made a wonderful life for 51 years. They started a company in 2000, ASpec LLC, and began building new homes. They loved working together and were very proud to build a home for someone to love. When Gary wasn't working, he and Deb were playing the perfect hosts to all of their friends and family, and loving on their fur babies, (Sad Joe, Louie, Benny, Gracie & Bella). They hosted many parties and made many memories in their home in Scarborough, and in 2003, moved up to Sebago Lake. Everyone who knew and loved Gary, has a great memory from the parties on the lake with him. He always was the life of the party and made everyone laugh. Everyone who knew Gary was always entertained by him and he was most famous for his rendition of Mr. Zip. Gary also had many hobbies! He was very skilled in metal fabrication, stained glass, and building go karts and mini bikes. Gary was very creative, and loved to create custom creations for his friends and family like jewelry boxes, wine stands and stain glass window pieces. . Gary, Deb, and her sister, Cindy were known as "The Three Musketeers". They were always together, doing many projects, and enjoying their time together. Cindy was always so generous to drop everything in Gary and Deb's time of need. She is the ultimate babysitter for her niece Bella and a true angel. As Gary would say every time she helped, "She's just amazing". Gary is survived by his wife, Deb, his sisters Teri Burgess and Donna Hanley, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Gary is predeceased by his parents, James and Helen Cassidy, his brother Jimmy Cassidy and brother in law's Chuck Hanley and David Driscoll. Gary's family would like to send a heartfelt "Thank You" to Dr. Christian Thomas and Melissa Timberlake for all the wonderful care they provided for him. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 23 at 1:00pm at Calvary Cemetery, 1461 Broadway, South Portland. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Gary's name to the charity of your choice.
