Obituary

Gail S. (McAloney) Clarke of Westbrook passed away on February 5, 2026 in Portland. She was born at home in Westbrook on April 20, 1933, the seventh child of Cecil G. and Antoinette M. (LeConte) McAloney. She grew up in Westbrook, attending Rocky Hill Grammar School and later Westbrook High School. In a fitting turn of life, Gail would later reside in an apartment in the former Westbrook High School after it was converted into residences.

On June 7, 1952, Gail married the love of her life Donald P. Clarke Sr. Together they raised five children and built a life centered on family and care for others. In 1972, the family moved from South Portland to Sebago, where they made their home on Peabody Pond. The home where countless family memories were made. Life on the pond was deeply enjoyed by everyone, filled with togetherness, laughter, and moments that will be treasured forever. Gail loved spending time outdoors. She enjoyed traveling, camping, and wintering in Homosassa Florida for many years. She also loved The New England Patriots.

Gail loved her family deeply and spent many years as a caretaker, always devoted to the well-being of others. Caring for those she loved was not just something she did; it was who she was. Family was always at the center of Gail’s world. She cherished time spent together and especially loved attending her grandchildren’s events. Whether it was a school program, a game, or a special milestone, Gail was happiest simply being there, watching, supporting, and celebrating those she loved. She never missed a family party and was often found drinking wine out of a coffee mug.
Gail’s gentle spirit, steady presence, and generous heart touched everyone who knew her. She showed her love through her actions by listening, showing up, and always being there when she was needed.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Don; her siblings, Lorraine, Margaret, Tess, Madeline, June, and Gilbert; and her grandson, Anthony (Tony) Clarke. She is survived by her children, Karen Austin and her husband Terry, Cynthia Martel, Donald P. Clarke Jr, Kimberly Giles, Stephen Clarke and his wife Terry. Her grandchildren, Alyson and her husband Kendall, Stephen and his wife Natasha, Jeffery and his wife Carissa, Douglas and his wife Jessie, and Timothy and his wife Nicole, along with eleven great-grandchildren, with one additional due in April.

Gail’s legacy lives on through the family she loved so dearly and the many lives she touched through her kindness, dedication, and quiet strength.

Visiting hours will be held 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. followed by a memorial service on February 20th, 2026 at Dolby Blais Segee Funeral Home, 434 River Road, Windham, Maine 04062.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
