G. Gordon White Windham- George Gordon White, 93, died peacefully on Wednesday January 25th in Falmouth, Maine. He was born on August 3, 1923, the son of Alfred White and Elizabeth Connolly, of Andover, Massachusetts. After graduating from Punchard High School in Andover, he received a full scholarship to attend Phillip's Academy-Andover for a post graduate year. He then attended Brown University. After two years at Brown, the U.S. entered WWII and Gordon served in the U.S. Navy as an officer aboard LST 652, which was involved in D-Day operations at Omaha Beach. After returning from World War II he completed his degree in Chemistry at Brown. He married his childhood sweetheart Gloria Field on March 1st, 1944. Their love of seventy years was the mainstay of both of their lives and saw them through the good times and bad. His working career spanned nearly five decades and involved numerous aspects of the pulp and paper industry during it's hay day. He started with Staley Starch Co. doing chemical research for specialty paper coatings and finished with Atlanta Wires-a leader in equipment and products used in the production of paper. They moved to Maine in 1963 partially because of the love of the state, as well as to shorten his travel to most of the larger paper companies in the northeast. There were few things Gordon and Gloria did not do together. By far their greatest joy was spending time on their boat, the Blue Heron exploring Casco Bay or "rafted up" for evenings of good stories and good friends. Gordon was past Commodore of Centerboard Yacht Club in South Portland. They lived in Cape Elizabeth for forty years and wintered in Fort Myers Florida before moving to Windham. Gordon was predeceased by his wife and soul mate, Gloria; his daughter LInda and his brothers Larry and Al. He is survived by his son Stephen T and wife Mary of Surry. Son Alan G. and wife Gail of Windham. Grandchildren Amy Wright-Demers, Karen Wright-Newton, Stephanie, Kelsey and Benjamin White. He is also survived by his great-grandson Zeke Newton. The family would like to thank Legacy Memory care and all of the individual people who have cared for Gordon over the last few years. They would especially like to thank Ursula Thompson and Linda O'Brion for their love and devotion to both Gordon and Gloria. A memorial service is being planned for the spring. Donations can be made in memory of Gordon or Gloria to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org.
