Obituary

Gorham,   Forrest A. Graves of Gorham, passed away at the age of 90 beside family after a long battle with ALS at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough on Saturday morning.           He was born on September 10, 1925 the son of James R. and Sadie Mae Steeves Graves. He was known by many as "Red" or "Woody" due to his red hair. Woody was a World War II disabled veteran. He was wounded in France and hospitalized for over a year. He was brought back on the Queen Elizabeth 2 and later married Eleanor F Bagster to whom he was married to for 50 years. They lived in Gorham Maine. Woody enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, but most of all he enjoyed frequenting the horse races at Scarborough downs where he made many friends over 40+ years. He also was a snow bird with his Wife Eleanor for over 30 years to Wildwood, FL where they had a home and many friends.           Despite having ALs and not being able to speak for 3 years, Woody always had a smile on his face. This smile was contagious to those around him. He will be missed by all who knew him.           Woody was predeceased by his parents, his Wife Eleanor Graves, four brother's, Carl Graves of Bath, James F. & Rev. Charles E. of Kentucky, Donald E of Waterboro, one sister Clara Grover of Portland, and a Daughter Cheryl Lowell. He is survived by two grandchildren, Lynne Langevin & Fiance Matt McGraw of Gorham, Jason Oliver and life partner Nicole Downs of Westbrook; Great Grandchildren, Samantha Langevin, and Jason Forrest Oliver, as well as a close family member Preston Chadwick of Westbrook. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, September 1st from 10AM to12 Noon followed by a Funeral Service at Noon at Blais and Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook. Interment will follow at Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland. Online condolences may be expressed at blaisandhayfuneralhome.com.
