Fernande Theresa LeBel Poitras lifelong resident of Westbrook born September 19, 1922 went to visit her lord on November 22, 2013 with her family by her side. Fern was the daughter of the late Simeon and Lucille Lefebvre LeBel. She married her late husband Joseph Robert Poitras in June of 1940 and was able to spend 53 years together before he passed.  They had three children. Fern attended St. Hyacinth School and graduated from Westbrook High School. She was very proud to be a charter member of the FOE Aerie 2977 Women Auxiliary which was incorporated in 1952.  She was also part of the Memorial team for many years along with being a waitress at the club as well.  She also worked at Sebago Shoe for a period of time. Fern lived in Westbrook for most of her life with a short stint in Gorham.  After her husband died, she was so determined to take care of herself that she got her driver's license at the age of 70.  She drove for 10-12 years before she gave it up.  She was a feisty and fiercely loving person who would do anything for her family.  She loved to spend time with all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren and had nick names for many of them.  Fern spent the end of her life at the Barron Center.  She talked about her nurses like they were part of her family.  She loved to play cards and cribbage with anyone who would visit and especially with her daughter Sandra.   She will be deeply missed by her children Robert (Patricia) Poitras, Sandra Rinaldi and Rudy (Cathy) Poitras.  Grandchildren Robin (Kevin) Walsh, Rick (Donna) Medlin, Terry (Kevin) Parenteau, Wende (Peter) Whitten, Kathy (David) Usher, Marc (Roxanne) Poitras, Brendan (Cortney Reagan) Poitras, Bradley (Elizabeth Holden) Poitras. Step granddaughter Ginnie Chadwick.  Great Grandchildren Heather (John Trodella) Larrivee, Megan Larrivee, Michael (Chelsea Husson) Walsh, Hunter and Forest Parenteau, Cameron and Alexis Usher, Haley and Emma Poitras, Brody and Marley Poitras. Step Grandchildren, Kristopher and Tyler Doyon, Christopher Rinaldi, Travis and Jeffrey Meserve and step great great grandchildren Dominic and Parker Trodella.  She was predeceased by her son Philip, grandson Joseph, daughter-in-law Priscilla Poitras, son-in-law William Rinaldi, brothers Maurice, Rudolph, Vincent Lebel and sister Claire Connolly.  Fern is survived by two sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be from 4 to 7 PM Tuesday at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook.  A funeral service will take place at 9:30 AM Wednesday at the funeral home.  Interment will follow in St. Hyacinth Cemetery.  On line condolences may be expressed at blaisandhayfuneralhome.com.
