Fernande A.West, 93, of Longfellow Place, Westbrook, passed away Monday, March 10, 2014 with her family by her side after a short illness. She was born in Sanford, Dec. 12, 1920, the daughter of John and Eleanor (Lamarre) Guertin. She worked at the Goodall Mill in Sanford, SD Warren, and the Westbrook Spinning Mill for many years before retiring. Fernande was a 40 year member of the VFW Deering Post, a past president of the Eagles Club, a member of the Red Hats. She was an extremely talented seamstress, was well known for crocheting doilies, enjoyed taking trips on her daughter Earlene's Tours for 20 years, and was an avid Bingo player at John Roberts Bingo. She was a loving caring person who always put the needs of other before her own. She was greatly loved by her children and family and all those who met her, and she will be greatly missed. She was predeceased by her husband Donald West in 1996. Fernande is survived by a son Rickey and wife Marjorie West of Steep Falls; daughters Donna Tukey and her companion Hal Hulse of Nashua, NH, Earlene M. Witas (her caregiver for many years)and husband Peter of Steep Falls, and Sylvia Taylor of Westbrook; her sisters Margie Crowley of Springvale, and Muriel Martin of Florida; 11 grandchildren Michael Schermuly, Melissa Schermuly, Tracy West Collins, JoAnn Taylor, Marlo Taylor, Peter Collins, Frank Collins, Wendy Collins, Jenny Miner, Valerie Tukey and Darrin Tukey, and 13 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 6 PM Friday at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook. Interment will be in the spring. On line condolences may be made at blaisandhayfuneralhome.com.
