Fernand L. LaRochelle Fernand L. (Fern) LaRochelle reached the end of life's journey on February 3, 2017. He was born in Bromptonville, Quebec, Canada to Gerald and Yvonne (Fournier) LaRochelle on April 12, 1929. His parents immigrated to Maine when Fern was six months old which remained his home state. He was raised in Bath and graduated from Morse High School in 1948. He was then employed at Bath Iron Works for four years as a draftsman. Fern then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1952. After serving four years he went on to receive his mechanical engineering degree at Indiana Tech and later continued to pursue a master's degree in business administration. When his children were in elementary school, he was president of the PTA as well as a pack leader in the Cub Scouts. Fern was a foreman at The Portland Company and gradually advanced to president. Later, he continued his business interests as owner of Portco, Rigby Machinery, and Allstate Home Improvement. Bored of retirement, he purchased Casco Bay Frames and then ran a small company out of his home. He held two patents for an oyster opener and the Maine Roll On. Fern enjoyed his camp, gardening, sailing, cooking, family gatherings and bed and breakfast excursions with his wife, Nancy. Fern is survived by his wife, Nancy (Phillips) of 22 years, his four children, Jeffrey and his wife Jennifer, Donna (LaRochelle) Mancini and her husband Tony, Gregory, Daniel and his wife Melissa, and stepson, Eric Phillips and his wife Angelina. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren as well as his father-in-law, Glendon Dexter. He is predeceased by his mother-in-law, Theo Dexter. In lieu of flowers or donations, the family asks that you give someone you love a hug in Fern's honor. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 11, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church Street in Westbrook, Maine. At the conclusion of visitation hours, Fern's family invites people to share a memory of him. A private burial will be attended by children and grandchildren only.
