Eugene N. MacKenzie “Bump" Westbrook- Eugene N. MacKenzie 85, of Westbrook ME lost his battle with cancer on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at his home with his family by his side. Born in Errol NH, on November 3, 1928, he was the son of Walter N MacKenzie and Zillah Thurston. Two days after graduating from Deering High School he enlisted in the marines where he spent over two years working in communications in Washington DC. Upon his return from DC he worked in Connecticut factories where he was highly regarded for his ability to keep things running. He ended his career in Maine with Shaw's supermarkets opening new stores and with the Comfort Inn in maintenance. Gene, better known as Bump enjoyed fishing, camping, snowmobiling, and spending time with family. Bump could fix anything and loved working on the homes of family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Phyllis (Morse) MacKenzie, and his five children, Dean N. MacKenzie and his wife Debbie, Brenda Garland and her husband Ronald, Gail MacKenzie and her husband Alton Clark, Eugene Paul MacKenzie, and his wife Rhonda, and Jan M. Minervino and her husband Samuel H. Minervino. Ten grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Two brothers, Roland and Donald (Joe) MacKenzie and one sister Diane Linkenbach. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service to be held at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St. Westbrook, on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 1:00 PM. Interment will be private. The family would like to thank the staff @ Hospice of Southern Maine, especially Ashley, Kim, Martine, and Cindy for their care and support through this difficult journey.
