Eugene D. "Grampy" Dunn, 65, of Bracket St., Westbrook, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012 at the Mercy Hospital. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Eugene and Eileen (Hutchinson) Dunn. He lived in New York and Virginia before moving to Maine in 1985. Eugene retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service. While living in Virginia he became a volunteer for the Gloucester Fire Department. After moving to Maine he continued his career in fire service, serving for 27 years with the Westbrook Fire Department. He was a Captain of the Valentine Hose Company, Engine 2. He also served with the town of Gorham as a Reserve Police Officer and with Dispatch. Gene also worked with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office as court security and a security officer at the Portland Jetport. He also served as a Corrections Officer at the Maine Correctional Center. Gene enjoyed fishing, and loved to spend time with his grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and a granddaughter Molly. He is survived by his wife Jo Anne (Denehy) Dunn of Westbrook; two sons, Richard Dunn of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Eugene David Dunn and his partner Elizabeth Haskell of Westbrook; a daughter Christie and her husband Stewart O'Brien of Gladstone, VA; a brother Raymond and his wife Karen Dunn of Falmouth; three sisters, Helen Schmall and her husband Charles of Upper Brookville, NY, Eileen Dunn of PA, and Elizabeth Bartlett and husband Barry of Scarborough; five grandchildren, Ashley, Allena, Zachary, Caden, and Gavin; three great grandchildren, Jayden, Kamdyn, and Kendall; and his first wife Dee and her husband Mike of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and his mother and father-in-law Joe and Marie Denehy; his sister-in-laws Jayne Denehy, Janis Weed and her husband Robert; brother-in-law Joe Denehy and his wife Julie; several nieces and nephews; and his two cats. Visiting hours will be from 6 to 9 PM Monday, February 20th at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St. Westbrook. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 AM Tuesday at St. Anthony's Parish Church in Westbrook. Interment will be private. On line condolences may be expressed at www.blaisandhayfuneralhome.com.
