GORHAM- Ervin Patrick Kimball went home to God on September 24, 2018. He was born on March 17, 1933 in Portland, Maine, attended Portland schools and graduated from Cheverus High School. He received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Gorham State Teachers College, and taught in North Berwick for four years, and then in Gorham as a teacher and later as elementary principal for 26 years. He introduced a very successful Artist In Residence Program to the Gorham Schools. He was active in St. Anne's Catholic Church as lector, parish council president, and leader of the RCIA program. He was a longtime member and business manager of the Portland Community Chorus, and sang in the PSO's Magic of Christmas Chorus for 30 years. He loves spending time with his family on the lake for a week each summer, as well as Thanksgiving, Christmas, and hosting a Labor Day family reunion every year. Survivors include, his beloved wife of 63 years, Christine (Letellier), sons John (April) Kimball, Robert (Kathy) Kimball, daughters, Mary Thomas, Sharon (Dr. Mark) Beever, and Kathy (Randy) Richardson; grandchildren, Michael Thomas, Mary (Pata Dibinga), and Susan Thomas (Meredith Morgan), Jonathan Beever (Laurie Pinkert), Kate Beever and fiancée Jeff Beam, Emily and James Kimball, Patrick and (April) Kimball, Dana and (Michael) Williams, Shane Kimball, Benjamin Douglass and (Krista Getchell); step grandchildren Jessica (Josh) White, Andrea (Jason) Faulkingham; great grandchildren include N'golela and Said, Henry and Caroline, Ethan, Shawn, and Evan, Xayda, Micah, Asher, Hannah and Benjamin, Archer and Maisey; and step great grandchildren, Ethan and Nathan. He is predeceased by his parents, Ervin and Margaret (Curran) Kimball; brothers, Thomas, Peter, and Leo, and half-sister Mary K. Bickford, and his beloved son, James. The family is grateful to the wonderful people of Compassus Hospice, Melody, Jen, Dawn, Brock, Kim, Jenessa, Molly, Jasmine, and Andrea. Nancy Brown of Gorham, Liz Paige from Opportunity Alliance and Erin from In-Home Senior Services for the kindness and care given to Ervin and Chris during the journey with Alzheimer's Disease, allowing us to keep him at home. Visitation will be held on Friday September 28 from 6pm to 8pm at the St. Anne's Catholic Church, 299 Main St., Gorham, ME. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 29 at 10am at St. Anne's, with a reception to follow at the church hall. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers those wishing to remember Ervin may donate to St. Anne's Church, the Gorham Food Pantry, the Animal Refuge of Greater Portland, Gorham Middle School Backpack program, or a charity of your choice.
