Obituary

Emily loved attending college and living in Boston. She was engaged in medical research at Maine Medical Center, she presented a research project at the MDI Biological Laboratory in Bar Harbor and is named in a published study conducted through the Bowdoin College Research Laboratory. She planned to work in medical/pharmaceutical research to attempt to help people, as so many in those fields have helped her throughout her life. Emily once told her mother that she believed the study of biology proved the existence of God because of its "perfect design". She adored all animals, especially her beloved cat, Harley. She was a regular donor to the Animal Refuge League from where Harley and many other family cats were adopted. Emily grew up in the St. Hyacinth Church community as an Altar Server trainer, Eucharistic Minister and active member of the Youth Group, working on many service projects. She believed strongly in the power of prayer candles. She worked as a Certified Pharmacy Technician at Riverside Hannaford Pharmacy with her second "family" of Fouachee, Angie and others. She was dazzled by shoes, fashion, traveling with her boyfriend, Connor, and laughing with her best friend, Paula. She never passed a Dunkin' without stopping for a specialty coffee. Emily took great pride in being a "strong, independent woman", and loved to drive everywhere in her gray Toyota Corolla that she named "Jack Nicholson". Emily was passionate, confident, funny, and very smart with a quick wit. She enjoyed life to the fullest with courage and was never afraid of anything. She was always open to new adventures and had plans and dreams of an exciting future. She lived and loved with all her heart and will always be with us. She is survived by her father, Larry Torrey Jr, and her mother, Kristianna (Morin) Torrey, her sister, Elizabeth (Torrey) Lents and her husband Philip Lents of Maryland, her brother, Benjamin Torrey and his fiancé, Ciara Horton of Westbrook, her beloved niece, Lanie Danielle Torrey, her grandparents, Gerald Morin and MaryAnn (Michaud) Morin of Portland, her grandfather, Larry Torrey Sr. of Winter Harbor, and beloved uncles, aunts and cousins. She joins her grandmother, Patricia Torrey and her dog Molly, now all residing in heaven. Special thanks to Dr. Dunbar Ivy at Colorado Children's Hospital in Denver. Also to Dr. Michael Landsberg and Disty Pearson, PA-C at Boston Children's Hospital. Their care and support had no limits. Visiting hours will be held 3:00 pm-5:00 pm Sunday, August 7 at the Westbrook Chapel of Dolby, Blais & Segee 35 Church Street, Westbrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 am Monday, August 8 at St. Hyacinth Church, 268 Brown Street, Westbrook, with a reception immediately following. Those who wish may make donations in Emily's name to Animal Refuge League.
