Obituary

WESTBROOK—Elwood W. "Bud" Haskell Jr. passed away June 11, 2018 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. He was born December 29, 1930, the second eldest child of 14, parents John and Anna (Grubb) Taylor. Bud worked throughout high school in order to help support his family, instilling a hard work ethic at a young age. He worked on the family farm and held various jobs and quickly developed into a jack of all trades. Growing up in Cumberland, he was a graduate of Greely High School. On August 25, 1952, he married Bessie Beesley. For many years, Bud owned and operated Bud Haskell's Garage in Falmouth, he later worked as a millwright for Burnham & Morrell baked beans. In his spare time, Bud enjoyed spending time with his family. Summers were filled with outdoor activities; whether it was stock car racing his beloved 57 Chevy "Buttercup" at Beech Ridge, boating off the Casco Bay, or camping at Wilderness Campground in Norway, ME. Bud was a lover of the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting and simply enjoying the Maine outdoors. He will be remembered as a kind and gentle family man who always attended his childrens and grandchildrens events and ball games. Bud was a lifetime member of the Westbrook Warren Congregational Church where he served as a Deacon and Delegate and was also a member of the Westbrook Senior Citizens, the Scarborough Grange and was a lifetime member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Bessie Haskell of Westbrook; children Tracie Haskell of Lebanon, TN, and Tim Haskell and his wife Sue of Westbrook; grandchildren, Jacob Haskell of Westbrook and Emily Haskell of Portland; a great grandchild, Jaxon Bear; siblings, Gertrude Sweetland, Elaine Bush, Norman Taylor, Anna Charles, Judy Riggs, and Veronica Davis. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Rhodes "Sonny" Haskell, Catherine Sumpter, Lane Taylor, John Taylor, Joan Doughty, Lyda Taylor, and David Haskell. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Thursday, June 14, 2018 from 6pm to 9pm at the Westbrook Chapel of Dolby Blais & Segee, 35 Church St., Westbrook, ME 04092. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 15 at 2pm at the Westbrook Warren Congregational Church, 810 Main St., Westbrook, ME. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bud's name may be made to: Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals (MSSPA), PO Box 10, S. Windham, ME 04082.
