Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Elsie Vina (née Custeau) Pomelow, of Westbrook, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who left this world on August 30, 2026, at the age of 91.

Born on March 15, 1935, to the late Rene and Annie Custeau, Elsie filled her years with love, laughter, and a deep commitment to her family and community.

Elsie was a bright light in the lives of many, known for her generous spirit and warmth. She attended Portland High School and made lasting memories with her friends. An enthusiastic member of her bowling league, she also found joy in playing bingo, where she always brought her lucky elephant charms, and knitting, often crafting cherished items for her loved ones. Most importantly, Elsie will be remembered for her festive Christmas gatherings, where her homemade peanut butter fudge and Italian cookies brought happiness to all who partook.

She was predeceased by her cherished husband of over 50 years, Clyde Pomelow, as well as her parents, two stepsons Clyde C. and David P. Pomelow, and grandson Jonathan Quinn.

She is survived by her three devoted daughters, Mary Ellen and her husband Russell Quinn, Terry Gipson and her significant other Robert Gale, and Cathy and her husband Bobby Tanguay, along with 9 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Elsie's loving presence will be profoundly missed, and she will always be remembered for the love she shared with her family and friends.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday September 26th at 11:00 am at Woodlawn Cemetery located at 380 Stroudwater St. Westbrook, Maine 04092 , offering friends and family the opportunity to come together and honor the remarkable life of Elsie. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in her name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, a cause that was close to her heart.
