Ella grew up in New Gloucester, attended local schools, and graduated in 1950. She then went on to Bliss Business College in Lewiston. At Ella's 50th class reunion she was proud to be recognized and reunited with her basketball teammates who were undefeated and held the State Championship title all 4 years of high school. Ella enjoyed going to camp, playing beano, and taking trips to Foxwoods. Her favorite past time was playing cribbage. She also enjoyed baking, especially her chocolate cake and her coffee cake. Truly a people person, Ella loved helping others. She would care for anyone in need and was very sentimental, never forgetting her family and loved ones. Ella was employed by Portland Gas Company; Westbrook Trust Bank as a teller and at the service desk; Portland Glass Company; and Peoples Heritage Bank as a teller and in the audit department. In 1982 she began caring for her ill husband; she cared for her elderly friends and then her grandchildren, until her retirement. She is survived by children, Nancy Bowden and husband Michael, Ronald Works and wife Theresa, Faye Billings and husband David, Gary Works, Phillip Young and fiancée Kay Or, and Pamela Young and husband Wayne Pierce; grandchildren, Kelli Crosby and husband Michael, John Bowden, Matthew Works, Shira Peters and husband Thomas, Ryan Works and fiancée Katie Holbrook, James Billings and fiancée Megan Frankel, Samantha Siddons and husband Michael, and Brian Young; great grandchildren, Jordan Crosby, Peyton Crosby, TJ Peters, Nolan Works, Cole Peters, and Hazel Billings; sister, Nancy Stanton and husband John; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband Alton Young, son John "Bucky" Works, and grandson Jonathan Billings; her brother; and two sisters. A funeral service will be held at 3 pm on Saturday, March 26, at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road, Windham. A period of visitation will be held from 1 pm until the time of the service. The burial will be at Mayberry Cemetery later in the spring. Memorial donations in Ella's name may be made to the Cross Roads Garden Club, c/o Janet Murphy, 153 Highland Rd., Standish, ME 04084
