Obituary

Elaine D. Smyth passed away on March 3, 2013 at The Gorham House, where she had been a resident for the past five years. She was born in Windham on August 16, 1939 to Linclon and Phyllis Sanders Partridge.  She attended Windham schools and in 1957 married Joseph Smyth, Jr. of Westbrook, where she lived for the majority of her life. Elaine worked for the Westbrook School System in the transportation department and also as a secretary for Weight Watchers of Falmouth. She was active in the Westbrook High School Band Boosters and traveled with the band on their 1974 trip to a national trophy in Miami, Florida. She was a past member of the Westbrook Woman's Club and a member of the Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church. She enjoyed hunting, canoeing, reading, indoor gardening, and knitting and needlepoint. She loved her family and especially enjoyed family trips and vacations, with Down East her favorite destination. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband Joe of Cumberland Center; brothers Walter (Kathy) Partridge of Gray, and Corey of Windham; sisters Carol Rogers of Windham, and Nancy (Lamar) Thomas of Okeechobee, Florida; son Joseph (Dana)  of Franklin, Tennessee, and daughter Amy (Christopher) Drew of Westbrook; grandchildren Tristan (Ginny) Smyth of Brunswick, Jenna Smyth of Camarillo, California, Bryce Smyth of Franklin, Tennessee, and Madison and Aidan Drew of Westbrook; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside memorial is planned for the spring with date to be determined. The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff and workers of The Gorham House for their kind and loving care over the past five years. "Slowly, creeping came the darkness, She heard Jesus call her name, And she raised her eyes to Heaven, Her heart singing as the evening came."
