Westbrook, Elaine C. Lajoie Francoeur died peacefully surrounded by family on September 2, 2016, her 59th wedding anniversary, after a long illness. Elaine was born December 18, 1937 to Antonio and Carmen Lajoie of Lewiston, ME. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1955 and attended St. Mary's Nursing School. In 1955 she married Roger and followed him in his Air Force career. After leaving the Air Force they settled in Westbrook to raise their family. She was actively involved in the medical community, having worked in many doctors' offices, Maine Medical Center in the transcription department, and then co-founding Westbrook Transcription Service. She was also an EMT working with the Westbrook Rescue Unit when it was an all-volunteer unit. In the 1970's she served on the Westbrook City Council. In 1993 she and Roger moved to Palm Bay, Florida for 23 years before moving back to Maine last October due to her ongoing illness. Elaine enjoyed quilting, having made many quilts and wall hangings by hand. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and sewing, and genealogy. However, her most favorite thing to do was go to Bingo! Elaine is survived by her husband Roger of Westbrook, her daughter Suzanne Merrill and husband Paul of Westbrook; their children Kevin and wife Marie of Windham, Jason and wife Jillian of Auburn (and first great-grandchild due in February), and Laura and significant other Josh Fortier of Auburn. She is also survived by her son Daniel and his children Michael and Nicholas, whereabouts unknown. She was predeceased by her infant son, Richard. She is also survived by her brother Raymond Lajoie and wife Doreen of Westbrook. The family is forever grateful for the kindness, support, dignity, love, and excellent care that Elaine received from the staff on 3 South of the Barron Center. Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM Wednesday at St. Hyacinth Church (St. Anthony's Parish). Burial will follow in St. Hyacinth Cemetery.
