Edward Warren O'Brien, 86, passed away Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014 at Maine Medical Center with his loving family by his side. He was born in Fitchburg, MA on September 18, 1928, the eldest son of the late Herbert O'Brien and Georgia Leonard. He was educated in Westbrook and graduated from Westbrook High School. After high school, Ed enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After serving his country, he took his place in the work force at S.D. Warren, where he worked for 40 years until his retirement. Ed was very active in the Mason's and held many positions; he was Past Master of Saccarappa Lodge #86, Past High Priest of Eagles Chapter #11, Past Grand Principal Sojourner of Grand Chapter, Past Illustrious Master of Westbrook Council #15, a member of Portland St. Allan Commandary #2, Mid Coast Council Allied Masonic Degree#205, Rosicrucian, and Valley of Portland Scottish Rite. Ed enjoyed many things including gardening, wood working, golf, and spending time with his friends and family. He was a hardworking man with a work ethic that will never be forgotten. He would do anything for anyone, and everyone knew that. Even as his health was declining he always made an effort to attend his children and grandchildren's events. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife Dorothy, a brother Kenneth O'Brien, and a granddaughter Tara Burke. Ed is survived by his five children, Linda Donahue and husband Michael, Cindy O'Brien, Noreen Casey, Carol Howard and husband Robert, and Richard Casey and wife Donna; his grandchildren Melissa Swett, Christina Hartnett, Kimberly Raymond, Megan Gooch, and Shannon Stevens; and 14 great grandchildren. Friends and relatives are invited to call from 5 to 8 PM Wednesday at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook, where a funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10 AM.
