Edward M. Harrity, 88, passed away at Maine Medical Center Tuesday, April 10, 2012 after a long illness. The son of Martin and Yvonne (Therrien) Harrity. Born and raised in Somersworth NH, attending Somersworth High and later served in the Navy during World War II. Employed for years at the Portsmouth Navel Shipyard. Upon retiring he traveled the world with his long time friend and companion Barbara Herbert of E. Hempstead NH. A member of the Masons #96, Moses Paul Lodge, the Dover Elk Lodge 184, and the American Legion of Rollingsford post 47. Ed enjoyed golfing, dancing, baseball, and never could resist singing to the tunes of Frank Sinatra and other greats. He was always the happiest being on or around the ocean. He was predeceased by two sons, Dennis and Edward "Teddy" Harrity. He is survived by a son Michael Harrity of Tucson AZ; three daughters Margaret "Peggy" Harrity and her partner Judy Graham of Gorham, Jane Harrity of Villanova, PA, and Megan Harrity of Fort Collins, CO. Also his sister Mary Walsh of Derry, NH, and two nieces Maureen Nassar and Susan Graveline and six grandchildren. Edward's family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at the Gorham House and Maine Medical Center (especially to Gail on the first floor), for their care and compassion. A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, April 24, at the Holy Trinity Cemetery in Sommersworth, NH.
