Edward J. Bernier (Jerry), 93 of Westbrook passed away peacefully on Monday, October 12, 2015. Edward was born in Waterville on June 26,1922, the son of Edward Walton and Sophie-Alice (Leclair) Bernier. He graduated from Waterville High School and entered the Navy during WWII where for three years he served aboard the USS Radford which is one of the most highly decorated war ships of all time. While in the Navy he met and married the love of his life Lucille A. (Bernard) Bernier on May 23, 1945. After leaving the Navy, they settled in Westbrook where Edward was employed by the Men's Shop for 10 years and for S.D Warren Paper Company where he worked for 33 years until his retirement in 1987. Edward was an avid golfer having won a couple club championships and he was thrilled to have shot a hole-in-one during one of his golf outings. Edward also loved boating with his family on Sebago Lake and later in life he enjoyed reading about history. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren while attending their many sporting events, dance competitions, recitals, and activities throughout the years. Edward was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Post, he was also a Communicant of St. Anthony's Parish. Edward was predeceased by his parents, brother Wilfred Bernier, sister Edith Rancourt and his loving wife Lucille to whom he was married for 68 years. He is survived by his son Deacon Peter and his Wife Debra of Windham, his daughter Celeste of Gorham. His grandchildren Mark Bernier and his wife Leah of Gettysburg, PA, Katie and Heather Bernier of Portland and Amanda Bell of Nashville, TN. His 3 great grandsons Max, Jake, and Cam Bernier of Gettysburg, PA. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4-7pm at Blais and Hay Funeral Home, a Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday at 10 am at St. Anthonys Parish in Westbrook.
