Obituary

Gorham – Genola E. Emery of 50 Waterhouse Rd. in Gorham, went to be with her lord and savior on July 10, 2013, surrounded by family and dear friends at Ledgewood Manor in Windham. She was born in Sanford on June 21, 1922, the daughter of James and Inez Morrill. She graduated from Sanford High School in 1940. After High School, she enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Europe and Africa, in Algiers, as a telephone operator, attaining the rank of Sargent. She had the privilege of taking phone calls from General Eisenhower. After serving, she returned to the Sanford – Springvale area and worked as a telephone operator. Genola met and married Harold Emery in 1947. They moved to Portland where she was a Sunday School teacher in Sagamore Village Community Center. Later, moving to Westbrook, she was employed at the old Westbrook Junior High School as a cafeteria worker and later became manager at the Westbrook High School cafeteria. Upon retiring, she and Harold built their house in Gorham and enjoyed many years there together. Genola enjoyed growing flowers, especially African violets. She was a "master" at it. She loved traveling and went to Israel, Greece, and Hawaii. She also enjoyed attending Bible study groups with her many friends. While in Gorham, she attended Galilee Baptist Church. We are truly grateful for all her dear friends who supported her in her final days and for Martha and Marjorie who were there with us in her final hours. Our thanks also go out to the Ledgewood Manor staff for all their caring and support at this difficult time. Genola was pre-deceased by her husband Harold and a son Steven.
