He was born and raised in Portland, the son of David and Geraldine (Orne) Mallar.  He attended Deering High School before enlisting in the Army.  Doug served for 9 years in the Army and was stationed in Vietnam and Germany.   Upon his return from the service he owned and operated a Laundromat and later worked for Fairchild Semiconductor for many years. He is survived by a son Jason Mallar of Portland; a daughter Deanne Duff of Augusta; his brothers Jeff, Tom and Blaine Watson; and his grandchildren Makayla, Jordan, Adrianne, Filar and Griffin. Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, from 3 to 6 PM at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook.  A VFW service will take place at 5 PM.  Interment will be in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in the spring.  On line condolences may be expressed at blaisandhayfuneralhome.com.
