South Portland, Dorothy "Dot" Guptill Pinette was born in Portland on January 06, 1931, to Joel and Etta Guptill. She grew up in a loving home with sisters Nellie, Beattie, Betty, Shirley and Phyllis and brothers Donald, Gene, John, and Bob. She graduated from Portland High School in 1949 where she met the true love of her life Roy Pinette. She agreed to be his bride after he slipped an engagement ring on her finger during Christmas midnight mass at the Cathedral in Portland. They married on July 4, 1951, and would remain inseparable during 73 years of marriage. In early life, Dot worked at Grants Department store. She would take Thursday afternoons off to go dress shopping at Porteous. She was always a sharp dresser no matter what the occasion. Upon the birth of their first child Nancy, she became a stay home Mom and raised all five of their children in Westbrook where they built and lived in their home for 63 years. She always made time to help us. Whether helping with school activities or lending a hand delivering newspapers on our paper route. You could always count on Mom. Her hobbies were reading, knitting, golfing, bowling , baking, and gardening. Dot and Roy retired in 1990 and spent twenty wonderful winters in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina playing golf and entertaining family and friends. They spent the following ten winters in Naples, Florida enjoying golf and family. Dot loved spending time with her grandchildren, family vacations and on the boat on Brandy Pond. On Wednesday, July 3, Dot (93) passed away peacefully surrounded by family. She is survived by her Husband Roy, Brother Bob (Beverly) of West Melbourne, FL, Daughter Nancy (Dean) Stockwell of Pittsfield , Sons Mike (Robyn) of Naples, FL, Rick of Aliso Viejo, CA, Ron (Sandy) of Laguna Hills, CA, and Steve (Lisa) of Milford, MA, Grandchildren Matt and Garth Stockwell, Sean, Brandon, Megan, Marisa, Alex, and Andrew Pinette, and Great Grandchildren Connor, Lacey, and Nicholas Stockwell, along with many nieces, nephews, friends, and longtime neighbors. The family will hold a private service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center or to a charity of your choice. The family expresses our thanks to the staff at The Grande of South Portland (Harbor Chase) for their care over the past year. Enjoying morning coffee and catching up with family is a memory we will always cherish. You will always be seated at the head of our table. My beloved wife, Mom, Nana, Aunt, and friend.
