Portland – Dorothy Florence (Barker) McNeil a long time resident of South Portland passed away Friday April 5th surrounded by her loved ones. Born October 2nd , 1939 in Portland Maine she grew up on Peak's Island and graduated from Portland High in 1957. In 1959 she married Donald P. McNeil, Jr. with whom she had 3 sons. In the 70's she worked at Fairchild Semiconductor making computer chips. She also spent some time working at Porteous Department Store. Dottie and Don resided in Redbank and raised their family. Dottie is fondly remembered by her sons' friends because Redbank was like one big family. Once her boys were grown, she and Don doted on their grandchildren taking many trips to the White Mountains, Santa's Village and staying at the Seven Dwarfs Inn making precious memories. When not trekking to NH, Dottie and Don loved visiting Bug Light often. Dottie was known for her gift of "telling it like it is". All who got to know Dottie can share their own personal story of her feisty nature. In her later years she resided at Seaside Nursing where she loved to play beano, do crosswords and hang out with her "squad". She was predeceased by her mother Fannie Bird, and her husband Don McNeil. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Ann Densmore of Baltimore, as well as her 3 boys – Donnie, David and Danny.
