Obituary

Doris passed away on January 11, 2024, at Sedgewood Commons. She was born at Maine Eye and Ear in Portland, Maine to the parents of Roberta and Gilbert Junco and also has a brother Mark Junco of Raymond, Maine. She graduated from Portland High School in 1966 where she would go on to become a certified nursing assistant at Maine Medical Center. Doris was the first nursing assistant in the state of Maine to be a part of the registered nurse report. Doris then went on to marry her high school sweetheart Joseph Mathew and would go on to have two daughters, Terri (Mathew) Seamans and Donna (Mathew)Weeks. They were married for 55 years but knew each other for 58 years. Doris had three passions in life her family, volunteer Paramedic with the Raymond Fire and Rescue, and later in life as a Secular Franciscan with the Sowers of the Word Order in Windham Maine. Doris loved being a mom, wife, grandmother, and friend. Later in life she enjoyed spending time with her three grandchildren who she loved immensely and spent as much time as she could with them. From their births and every life changing event that occurred in their lives, both in person, on the phone or Face Time. She was so proud of Kellie Weeks, Katlyn Weeks and Patrick Weeks who is a member of the Army Reserves. For many years she was an active member of Raymond Rescue-Fire Department and was very proud to care for the residents of the town at their weakest time. In the beginning Doris filled in for a while with the Town of Raymond's Red Phone System by manning the emergency phone for the Fire-Rescue service. She started out being one of the first two female fire fighters in Raymond. Doris not only became a paramedic, and cared for the ill and injured but had the opportunity to assist in the delivery of two babies. She was very proud to be part of bringing two new lives into this world. Not only did she care for people during their sickest hours, but she held many leadership roles, for example, Rescue Captain. In addition to volunteering as a paramedic she also recertified as a nursing assistant and went on to work at Falmouth by the Sea and for a visiting nurse home care company. Lastly, later in life she became a Secular Franciscan along with her husband Joseph Mathew, and she also held an officer position within the Franciscan Fraternity. She also was involved and devoted to her Catholic faith which she shared with Joseph and daughters for many years. Doris drew her strength from her Catholic, and Secular Franciscan Faith. Doris is survived by her husband Joseph Mathew of 55 years plus 3 years of high school. Doris is also survived by daughters Terri Seamans and husband Darryl and Donna Weeks, a brother Mark Junco and wife Cindy. Also, three grandchildren, Kellie Weeks, Katlyn Weeks, and Patrick Weeks. The family would like to thank the staff of Fallbrook Woods, Sedgewood Commons, and Affinity Hospice Service for providing compassionate care during these final steps in Doris's life.
