Donald C. Small Falmouth – Donald C. Small, formerly of Portland, passed away on May 5, 2024 at Sedgewood Commons. Don was born on January 31, 1937, at the family home in Windham, the only child of Ralph and Carolyn Small. He grew up in Windham. In 1958, Don married Cathleen Libby, and they raised their three daughters in Deering Center, Portland. He was employed as an auto body mechanic at several local businesses, retiring after 35 years from Forest City (Quirk) Chevrolet at 80 years old. Don loved nature and being outdoors and for a number of years had a camp in Wytopitlock in Aroostook county on the Mattawamkeag River. He and Cathleen enjoyed spending time there. Don liked hunting, boating, and fishing, most often with his long-time friend Woody. Don saw the value (real or potential) in everything and was a great collector of bits and pieces he would then find a use for. He loved to tinker and putter, and there wasn't anything he couldn't fix. Don was predeceased by his parents, his wife, and two daughters, Jeraldine Peddle and Diane Small. He is survived by his daughter Linda Richard and her husband Steve, grandchildren Stephen Prescott, Jr. and his wife Kristina, Joshua Prescott, Christine Peddle, and Nicholas Peddle, and great-grandchildren Kaleb, Audrey, Dominic, Grayson, and Bentley. Don is also survived by his sister-in-law Jackie Libby Dexter and husband Ron Dexter, nephew David, niece Deborah, and their families. The family wants to thank neighbors Carol and Phil Divinsky for looking out for Don in his final years at home on Pleasant Avenue and to the staffs of Sedgewood Commons and Affinity Hospice Care. The family will celebrate Don's life privately.
