Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald F. Mannett of South Portland, Maine (formally of Westbrook, Maine) on May 15, 2026, at the age of 89. Don passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family from heart failure. A beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will always be remembered for the love of his family, friends, and the passion he had for being outdoors.

Born on April 16, 1937 in Gorham, Maine, Don grew up as the only child of Grace and Harry Mannett.

Don had a surveying license and worked thought his life surveying for people as a side job. He also worked for Southworth Machine Company for seven years before taking the job as Director of Engineer and Economic Development for the city of Westbrook where he retired after serving 36 years.

Don spent most of his life in Westbrook Maine where he raised his family. He is a past Master of Warren’s Phillips Masonic Lodge, a member of the Westbrook Congregational Church, a member of Westbrook Rod and Gun Club, and a member of the National Rifle Association.

Don loved spending his free time at his camp which he built in Hiram, Maine where he enjoyed fishing, hunting and exploring the Maine woods. Don had a love for tying his own flies for fishing and carving animals and walking sticks from wood he harvested from surrounding forests.

On October 31, 1959 he married the love of his life, Margo H. Yerrington/Mannett. The two shared a life full of family and friends that lasted 67 years and yielded four children, 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Don is survived by his wife, Margo H. Mannett, his three daughters, Wendy L. Rosenthal and her husband Andy of Carrabassett Valley, Tracey E. Moir and her husband Paul A. Taber Jr. of Hanover, Maine, Lesley A. Dutil and her husband Jeffrey of Porter, Maine, and a son Raymond P. Mannett and his wife Lisa of Fairhope, Alabama, his cousin Sheryl Towle and her husband Mike of Gorham, and six grandchildren, Leah Rosenthal, Sarah Moir, Taylor Mannett, Bailey Amstutz, Carter Mannett and Allie Mannett.

A public memorial for Don will be held at the Westbrook Chapel of Dolby, Blais & Segee, 35 Church Street, Westbrook, Maine on Saturday, May 30th. Visiting hours are from 1-2pm followed by a memorial service.
