Obituary

Donald R. Larrabee Jr. passed away on May 4, 2026, surrounded by the memories, places, and people that shaped a life filled with adventure, hard work, and deep family connections.

Donald was a man who appreciated both simple pleasures and extraordinary experiences. He loved racehorses, trips to the casino, and smoking a good cigar. He especially enjoyed spending time in Denmark at his Uncle John’s, around campfires, in the woods, and surrounded by nature with his mom and cousins, where some of his happiest memories were made. He loved to hunt deer, fish, swim, and enjoy the outdoors whenever he could.

Donald also enjoyed cooking, gardening, and growing all types of plants and vegetables. Some of his fondest memories were the time spent in the kitchen with his mom, cooking up her newest creations together. He had a curious mind, an adventurous spirit, and a lifelong appreciation for learning about the world around him.

One of the most remarkable chapters of Donald’s life was the time he spent living in Iran during the 1970s. During his years abroad, he learned to speak Farsi and developed a deep appreciation for the culture, people, and experiences he encountered. The stories and memories from that period remained an important part of his life for decades afterward.

Donald cherished time spent with family and friends and was known for sharing stories, laughter, and traditions that connected generations together.

Donald is survived by his nieces and nephews: Anna (Jordan) Johnson, Kayla (Phil) Abbott, Agostino “AJ” Samson, Sara (Drew) Williston, Rolanda (John) Stevens, and Amanda (David) Olivieri; Maria Commoss; step-nephew Nathan Fifield, and many cousins. He is further survived by many great-nieces and great-nephews, along with many other beloved relatives, friends, and neighbors whose lives were touched by his kindness, stories, and presence.

Donald was predeceased by his father, Don Larrabee Sr.; his mother, Julia (Pecoraro) Larrabee; his brother, Agostino “Gus” Samson; and 9 aunts and uncles.

He will be remembered for his adventurous life, his love of family, his stories from faraway places, and the many memories created along the way. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A memorial service will be held at 11AM Saturday June 20, at the Windham Chapel of Dolby, Blais & Segee 434 River Road, Windham. An hour of visitation will be held from 10AM until the time of service. Interment will follow at Arlington Cemetery, Windham.
