Diane Marie Alward, 62, of Scarborough, passed away peacefully at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House on August 14, 2023 with her loving daughter by her side after a courageous battle with Sneddon syndrome. She was born on February 17, 1961, in Portland, to Donald and Janet Alward. Diane grew up in Scarborough before moving to Limington in the late 1970's and graduating from Bonny Eagle High School in 1980. Following graduation she went to work filling odd jobs until she became a devoted stay at home Mom in 1986 to daughter Courtney Marie with former husband Joel Axelsen. She cherished Courtney, was proud of her accomplishments, and was known to be a great mother by her family and friends. Diane transitioned back into the work force, working for the Kezar Falls Woolen Mill in Parsonsfield in 1992, and then a couple years later transitioned to MSAD #6 school district until 2005 when the effects of the disease began to alter her day to day routine. In 2006 Diane moved back to Scarborough where she met long time life partner of 17 years, Ted Miel, who remained by her side and cared for her as the disease progressed. They enjoyed bird watching, outings to the local beaches and parks, and watching classic films, along with Diane's hobbies of puzzles, card games, and shopping with Courtney. Diane is survived by daughter Courtney Hebert and her husband Shawn, granddaughter Addison Hebert, siblings Barbara Clarke and her husband David, Cheryl Dunham and her husband Cliff, William Alward and his wife Michelle, life partner Ted Miel, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. She was predeceased by her parents Donald and Janet Alward, brother Bruce Alward, and sister Linda Curlew Gurganus. No funeral or memorial service is immediately planned. The family will notify loved ones in the future when a service is planned. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in memory of Diane Alward. 11 Hunnewell Rd.
