Denis Henri Plante, 78, of Gorham, Maine, died unexpectedly on December 17, 2024, surrounded by his family, who deeply loved him and will miss him greatly. He was born in Biddeford, Maine, on January 13, 1946, the son of Norbert and Alice (Beaudet) Plante. The youngest of ten children, he spent his formative years in Worcester, MA, where he graduated from St. Paul's Cathedral School. In 1963, his family moved back to Biddeford, and he graduated from St. Louis High School. After graduating, he served in the US Coast Guard Reserve for six years. In 1969, he married the love of his life and devoted partner, Milaine St. Ours. Denis entered the information technology field in its infancy and adapted to numerous changes in the industry over his 38-year career. In the early 70s, he was responsible for developing and installing the first automated information system for the cities of Biddeford and Lewiston. In 1976, he started a career in the paper industry, becoming responsible for IT at several paper mills throughout Maine and Quinnesec, Michigan. Denis was a man of faith who believed in giving back to others. In 2003, he was named "Tutor of the Year" for Literacy Volunteers of Maine. As an active member of the St. Anthony's Church Knights of Columbus, he volunteered for Coats for Kids, The Joy of Sharing Campaign, at food pantries, and in numerous other capacities. In his life, he was most happy when enjoying the company of his family and loyal friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Milaine (St. Ours) Plante, and his son Jason Plante, daughter-in-law Susan (Spencer) of Londonderry, NH, his daughter Rebecca (Plante), and son-in-law Greg Lavertu of Gorham, ME. He was exceptionally proud of his grandchildren William, Emelia, Madeleine, Jackson, and Jude, who enjoyed time spent with their Pépère and loved him beyond measure. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 2, 2025 from 9 to 11 with a Memorial Service to follow at 11 am, at St. Anthony Parish, 268 Brown Street, Westbrook, ME. Denis was a long-time supporter of St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
