Obituary

David James Ryan died unexpectedly in his home on June 25, 2015 in Westbrook, ME at the age of 70. David was born on March 14, 1945 in Island Falls, ME to Edward and Florence Ryan. He graduated from the University of Maine in 1971 with a degree in Mathematics. He married Jennifer Louise Bates in 1966. The couple would have celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary this July 2. After his career as a Chinese Linguist in the United States Air Force, David and Jennifer moved to Lebanon, CT and eventually to Westbrook, ME, where they have been living for 39 years. David worked for Pine State Trading company as a computer programmer until he passed.  He was an active and dedicated member of the Masons. All will remember David as a man of few words, but the words that were spoken always had plenty of meaning and wisdom. His dry sense of humor will truly be missed. He was an unforgettable husband, father, father-in-law  and Grandfather. David is survived by his wife, Jennifer; children, Terri Ryan and Scott Ryan and wife; siblings Edward Ryan, Ronnie Ryan and Steve Ryan; and granddaughter Bryce Ryan and one on the way. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Florence Ryan of Island Falls, ME and sibling Anita Anderson. A funeral is scheduled for July 8, 2015, 1 pm at The Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta, ME, with a reception to follow at the home of Scott and Lindsay Ryan in Augusta.  All are welcome to attend and celebrate David's life. In addition, the family will hold a viewing on July 1, 2015 from 4-7pm at Blais and Hay Funeral Home in Westbrook, ME. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Animal Refuge League at 449 Stroudwater St, Westbrook, ME 04092.  The family would like to thank Westbrook Fire and Rescue for all of their efforts.
