It is with deep sorrow, the family of David (age 84) and Jacqueline(age 81) Neilson announce the death of their parents after 61 years of marriage. David Belford Neilson Jr. was born to David Belford Neilson Sr. of Massachusetts and Hazel (Lawrence) of So. Africa. He has two surviving siblings Wendy Twitchell Martin and Larry Neilson and several nieces and nephews. He was known fondly to all as Dave, lived a life marked by love, nature and unwavering dedication to his loved ones. Born on May 29, 1940, in the city of Boston, MA. On July 9, 2024, Dave's life came to a peaceful close in Windham, ME, surrounded by his family. His infectious laughter and kind spirit were gifts to everyone he met. Jacqueline Angela Neilson, affectionately known as Jackie to her friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2024, in Westbrook, Maine. Born on April 24, 1943, in Framingham, Massachusetts, Jackie embodied a spirit of joy and intelligence that touched everyone she met. She was born on April 24, 1943 to Nicholas A. Palmieri of Italy and Mary (DiFranco) of Massachusetts. She was predeceased by her sisters, Arlene Brendan, Elanine Latham, Jeannie Sobotowski, and her brother, Robert Palmieri. She has several nephews and nieces as well. Dave attended Ashland High School and Jackie attended the nearby Marion High School. They met, dated and married on November 11, 1966. They were predeceased by Pamela Jacquiline Neilson at 2 months old and more recently their beloved son, Christopher David Neilson of North Carolina. They found solace in the loving embrace of family. Surviving family includes Christopher's wife, Fiona Neilson, and granddaughter Magen and one grandson Shaun. They found immeasurable joy in the nearby family as well. Their son Timothy L Neilson of Hiram, Timothy's wife Tracy, and their daughters Hannah—with her fiancé Kim Moulton —and Elisha Neilson. The youngest, Jeffrey Neilson, remained close to his parents. For many years, Dave served as a skilled mechanic at Palmer Springs where his expertise and work ethic were well known. Dave nurtured a passion for the simple pleasures in life. He was an avid fisherman, enjoying camping and fishing with family and friends. A master tinkerer, Dave could often be found in his garage working on his vehicles or building his boat or fly fishing rods. Above all, Dave's greatest joy was family. He built a life with Jackie offering unconditional love and support. His legacy is not just in the objects he fixed or the fish he caught, but in the lives he touched and the laughter he shared. Dave's life was a testament to the power of positivity, the strength of family bonds, and the enduring impact of a kind soul. Jackie pursued a career in cosmetology with an ability to bring out the inner beauty in each of her clients. Jackie's warm personality left a lasting impression on those she worked with. Jackie was an active member of Our Ladies of Perpetual Help Ladies Guild, contributing her time and energy to various activities and functions. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, providing her with strength and comfort. She was a leader within her church community, uplifting those around her. Jackie was an avid games enthusiast. She found great pleasure in the challenge of card games like cribbage and poker, as well as the strategic intricacies of Scrabble. Her competitive spirit was always in good fun, and her intelligence shone through in every game she played. It was not uncommon to find Jackie deeply engrossed in a game of Solitaire or eagerly solving a crossword puzzle, her mind always sharp and active. Jackie's love for games extended to her enjoyment of game shows on television, with "Wheel of Fortune" being a particular favorite. As we bid farewell to Dave and Jackie, we celebrate a life lived with devotion, a life that was full of love, laughter, and the joy of simple pleasures.
