WINDHAM—David Boyd Emery, 65, of Windham, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2018. He was born in Portland, Maine on October 27, 1952, a son of Mark P. Emery II and Eleanor B. (Winchell) Emery. David grew up in Gorham, and graduated from Gorham High School. After Graduation, he attended The Rhode Island School of Photography from which he received his certificate as a Master of Photography. David's talent and true passion in life was photography. He was for many years a member of the MPPA. (Maine Professional Photographers Association) He owned and operated Preble Photographic Studio in Waterville which gave him many entrepreneurial avenues to explore which included commercial photography, weddings, and photographing beauty pageants as well as Portraiture. Over the years, he photographed many Governors, politicians and personages of note such as the author James Michener. On an annual basis, until her death, he took pictures of Senator Margaret Chase Smith at her library and museum in Skowhegan. He was forced to give up his Photography because of Macular Degeneration. Those who wish may make donations in his memory to Diabetes and Heart Philanthropies For 22 years, David worked at Home Depot in North Windham where he worked in several departments but mainly in the hardware section. David was a valued employee at Home Depot because of his customer service oriented approach and was recognized by the company with the Homer Award. David was a member of Harmony Lodge #38 AF & AM in Gorham. He was a Master Mason, a York Rite Mason and a Scottish Rite Mason who photographed many events for the Masons. He truly valued the comradery developed with his fellow Masons. He had a genuine willingness to interact with and get to know others, which was also evident in his photographs. Many of David's friends have known him most of his life. He truly appreciated all his friends, both newer and long time and the times that they spent together. He will be missed by one and all. David was a collector of many forms of music, books, and photography equipment. David also enjoyed playing his guitars and when he could, making music with his friends. He also had a keen interest in old cars and sports cars. Above all, David was exceptionally proud of his son Peter and his accomplishments. Peter is a Second Year Student at Maine Maritime Academy and is in the Regiment . David was more than a father to his son Peter; he was a best friend. David is survived by his son, Peter W. Emery; a brother Thomas A. Emery and his wife Danielle; sister in law Sarah J. Emery; a niece Nicole J. Emery, nephews Mark P. Emery IV and Roger J. Emery; and his former wife and dear friend, Lisa Elizabeth. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Mark P. Emery III and his niece Bryanne Erin Emery. A Masonic memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 11 am at the Masonic Harmony Lodge #38 A.F. & A.M., 33 Cressey Rd., Gorham, ME 04038. This will be followed by a get together in the dining hall for refreshments and sharing memories. All family and friends are welcome.
