David B. Dyer "Digger" October 4, 2013:  David Dyer, of Westbrook Maine, formerly of Bangor Maine, passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a courageous 2 year battle with pancreatic cancer.  David was born in Bangor on January 16, 1949 to Kathleen Glines Dyer and the late Clarence B. Dyer.  He graduated from Bangor High School, class of 1967.  After graduation David enlisted in US Air-force where he went on to become a photographer, winning many awards for his work.  Before leaving the service he started his career as a Golf Professional.  Upon being honorably discharged from the service he returned to Maine, taking his first job as a Golf professional at Penobscot Valley Country Club in Orono, Maine.  After many years working at country clubs he moved into sales at Neveda Bob's Golf and Tennis.  He returned to his roots and his passion for teaching the game of golf, working at The Bethel Inn and Country Club and Stowe Acres Country Club as a teaching Professional.  David finished his career working at Dick's Sporting Goods as Director of Golf.  Earlier this year David completed his 40th year of committed service to the Professional Golf Association of America, PGA, securing his designation as a Life Member.  Over his career David won numerous golf tournaments.  His nickname "Digger" came from his ability to dig out a par when nobody thought it possible.  David carded an unbelievable 17 career holes-in-one.  David was a proud member of the Order of Freemasons. When not working or playing golf David could be found either fishing or hunting.  Most recently he had the opportunity to see his brother harvest his first moose, completing his families' grand slam.  He had the opportunity to start the process in 1988, followed by his son, Benjamin, in 2000 and 2012, his son Christopher in 2012, and finally his brother Jeffrey only 2 weeks prior to his passing.   During the summer time David could be found at the "Honey Hole" on Sebago Lake with his best friend Matt Trudell catching salmon.   David is survived by his children Christopher and wife Robin Dyer of Montville, Maine: Son Benjamin and wife Gwendolyn Dyer of Gray, Maine; Daughter Emily Braley and husband David of Glenburn, Maine:  6 grandchildren, Alexis, Brooke, Olivia, Liam, Zoe, and Ciera:  loving mother, Kathleen "Cassie" "Katie" Glines Dyer, of Bangor Maine; Siblings Jeffrey and wife Susan Dyer of Glenburn, Maine; Sister Valerie Dawn and Husband Paul of Sanford, Maine; Sister Gretchen Dyer-Gagnon and husband Daniel of Holden, Maine; and Honorary Brother Douglas MacGown of Bar Harbor, Maine;  several nieces and nephews; his significant other Lynn Carr of South Portland, Maine; best friend Matthew Trudell of Windham, Maine;  and his beloved cat DejaVu, Vu.  David was predeceased by his father, Clarence "Cass" B.
