Obituary

Windham- David W. Brannen, 76, passed away in Scarborough on February 15, 2017. The son of Elliot and Doris (Emerson) Brannen, he was born in Mars Hill Maine on October 27, 1940. His family moved to Windham when David was young and he grew up on the Emerson family farm. He was a direct descendant of Ralph Waldo Emerson. He attended Windham schools. His father was a boat builder which was a big influence in David's love of boats, boat mechanics, and the water. He enjoyed barefoot waterskiing. He worked most of his career at Taylor's Marina, and also worked for Ryder Truck Rental, and M.L. Rogers. He was predeceased by his sister Virginia, and a life partner, Frances Butts. He is survived by his wife Janet of 16 years, his children's mother Elizabeth Downes, his son Jeffery Brannen of Minot, his daughter Lynne Brannen Cross and her husband Jay of Cape Elizabeth, his six grandchildren, Benjamin, David, Matthew, Dylan, Mason, and Emerson, and one great grandchild, Christian. He will also be missed by his many friends at Corsetti's Windham. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Windham Hill United Church of Christ, 140 Windham Center Rd, Windham, with Rev. Sally Colegrove officiating. A celebration of Dave's life will follow the service in the fellowship hall next door from 2:30- 4:30 PM. Arrangements are under the care of Dolby Funeral Chapel, Windham. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in David's memory to the American Diabetes Association, 2451 Crystal Drive, Suite 900, Arlington, VA 22202
