David Christian Berry passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 25, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 87 years old. David was born in Portland, ME to Howard W. Sr. and Doris Berry in 1938. He attended Portland High School. He is a Veteran of the US Air Force and worked for Rigby Railroad for the remainder of his working years. He was an active member and held offices at the American Legion Post 62 as a Second Vice Chair and the 40/8 as a Chaplin. David married Donna Louise Axelsen on November 21st, 1958. A devoted and loving husband, father, Papa and Papa Bear to many. David touched the lives of all who knew him with his love, kindness and unwavering support. His legacy lives on through his family, who will cherish the countless memories he leaves behind. David is survived by his wife of 68 years, Donna; their daughters, Laurie Berry, Beth and husband Danny Cummings; and their son Jeffery Berry Sr. and his partner Rebecca Proctor. After the death of his son David Jay, he was proud to take a major part in raising his granddaughters, Ashley Jay and Lyndsey Marie Berry. In addition to his wife, David is survived by Ashley Berry and Daniel Attenweiler, their son Gabriel Jay, Lyndsey Berry and Dennis Carter, their children Rae, Emma, Shelby, Madelyn, and Jared Christian, grandchildren April and Taylor Nichols, Zackary and Rebecca Cummings, Tabitha Cummings and Hossein Miremadi, their children Ayla, Caspian, Dahrius, Kayvan, and Mehdi. Joshua and Michelle Cummings, their children Nolan and Mason, Brian and Jennifer Cummings, their children Ashtyn and Kennedy, and great-great grandchild Dauntless, Jesse Cummings and Jillian Mele, and their children Riley, Dylan, Samantha, Kasey, and Brandon, Jeffery Berry Jr. and daughter Vivian, Natasha Berry and daughter Alexis, Litichia McKinley, her children Lincoln, Logan and Lylliana. Additionally Cote, Shane, and Jesse Berry of Oklahoma. David is predeceased by his youngest son David Jay Berry, granddaughter Shandy Marie Berry, brother Howard "Bill" Berry, Jr., and sisters Marjorie Berry, Marsha Applegate and Maryjane Howard. Celebration of Life will be held Friday, September 5th at Dolby, Blais & Segee at 35 Church Street, Westbrook. Visitation hours are from 4-7PM; with military Honor Guard and prayer services starting at 5:30PM. Following the services there will be a gathering at The American Legion Post 62, near Riverbank Park, at 17 Dunn St. in Westbrook.
