David Leland Anderson 1934-2023 David Leland Anderson, 89 of Gorham, Maine passed away peacefully surrounded by the family he loved on Saturday, October 14, 2023.He was born in Gardner, Massachusetts on April 22,1934, son of the late Paul V. and Sylvia Poyhonen Anderson. A graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute he also served in the U.S. Army. Throughout his life, he worked as a real estate appraiser in Boston and in Gardiner, Maine, owned Hallowell Hardware for years and ended his career at a job he loved at the Maine State Archives, concentrating on their Civil War memorabilia and letters. David was a gentle man with true integrity. He cherished adventure in the outdoors and hiked many of New England's highest peaks in all seasons. He relished avoiding interstates, locating ways to get "there" from "here" all around New England, expressing a love for the region and its wonders. His love of history, especially the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, led him on trips to Gettysburg and other battlefields. Classical music, musicals, and opera along with bookstores were part of his life. He loved collecting books, especially histories. Trips to Arizona, Mexico and Hawaii held special memories. David was predeceased by his sister Lenore and her husband Ambrose Marean. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Gloria Stuart Anderson, his son, Mark, daughter Beth Young and Jay Weaving, Sr., his grandson, Jordan Anderson Young and Bryanna Smith, along with nephew, Paul and nieces, Jude, Jane, and their families. The family would like to thank the Hospice team, especially nurse Julie and C.N.A., Lynn for their loving care and support during David's last weeks. At David's request there will be no visiting hours. In honoring his memory, the family will be holding a small private celebration of life. David will eventually rest in the Anderson family plot at Evergreen Cemetery in Gardner, Massachusetts. Those who wish to contribute to David's memory may donate to Hospice of Southern Maine, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, or the Gorham Food Bank. Arrangements are by the Dolby, Blais, &Segee Funeral Home.
