Colette (Pelletier) Day Colette was born on June 21, 1952, in Gorham, Maine the youngest daughter of Omer (Pete) and Edna (Lavigne) Pelletier. She is survived by two sisters Rose-Marie (spouse Susan Sweeney) and Roberta Dougherty (husband Patrick) and an honorary sister Lyndell Lavigne (husband Mark). The frequent relocation of this military family helped to create very strong family bonds. Every summer was highlighted with a trip to Westbrook which was the family's "home" base. It is during those visits that a close bond with the "Lavigne" cousins – Roger (wife Kathy), Mark (wife Lyndell) and Michael (spouse Kendra) began and continued to grow through to the present. After college in Ohio followed by a few years sharing an apartment with Roberta in Colorado Springs Colette decided to "temporarily" return home to Westbrook with her parents. This arrangement worked so well for the three of them that it became permanent. During her parent's last years she became the primary caregiver which she did with much kindness and patience. After returning to Westbrook Colette began her 40 year career as a unit secretary at Maine Medical Center and became a very dedicated parishioner of St. Hyacinth Church. She was a very skilled craftsman with a sewing machine, knitting needles, crochet hooks, etc. and loved sharing her knowledge. Colette cherished her role as daughter, sister, wife, friend and aunt. By now Roberta and Pat had five children, Angela, Tim (wife Emily, children Haley, Heather and Ryan), Dan (wife Jenna), Susan (Colette's Godchild, husband Raymond, children Raymond, Benjamin and Olivia) and Katie (husband John). Since none of them lived close by many trips were made visiting these families. However, the Lavigne cousin families were in the Portland (area) and Mark and Lyndell, their sons and their families became Colette's closest family. She attended the events in their lives: baptisms, graduations, dance recitals, weddings, athletic events and the list goes on. After many years of friendship she married John Day on September 29, 2007. Colette became a wife, and instantly became a step grandmother and step great grandmother broadening the circle she encompassed with her love and John became a welcomed member of Colette's extended family. They had 10 wonderful years together, then once again, Colette was the primary care giver until his death on March 11, 2017. For the first time in Colette's life she was living alone. By now the "cousins" were nearing retirement and they were free to spend more time together. Colette lived the life she chose to the fullest exemplifying her Catholic values in all her actions. At the end of May, Colette was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. For the next 3 months she gracefully accepted the situation with peace and deep faith. Roberta and Pat moved in with Colette and the three of them shared her last months lovingly together and were by her side as the took her last breath on August 30, 2024.
