Obituary

Westbrook, Clyde A. "Harry" "Sonny" Harriman, 83 of Cole St, died at his home Tuesday September 17, 2013.  He was born in Portland, Irish Catholic, the second oldest of 9 children to Clyde A. Sr, and Ethel Gertrude Mulkern Harriman.   He attended Portland schools, sang in choir for ten years at the Cathedral Church.  At 16 he tried out for Boston Braves, at age 17 he joined the Marine Corps.  He served in the Korean War, Weapons Company 1st Division Marine, heavy machine gun unit as 1st gunner.  He was in the battle of Inchon and Seoul Korea, chosen few campaign.  He was a very decorated officer and very proud of his Marine Corps Service. In 1955 he joined a musical group as a singer that toured the U.S.  He had been employed by the S.D. Warren Co. where he was instrumental in organizing the union, and later as a mail handler and Union Arbitrator, Union Leader & Sargent and Arms at the Portland Post Office.  He retired after 28 years of service.  He loved politics and also knew Ed Muskie & many others.   He enjoyed traveling and was a big Red Sox & Pats Fan.  He gave to many charities.  Dad had the gift to make people laugh, his generosity with his time to go out of his way to help people and with his ever ready smile and conversation in routinely spreading cheer. He left a lot of memories, everyone who has been fortunate enough to have been touched by his life.  Along with his convictions to always stand up for what he believed is right.  A genuinely quality human being, he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.   A very special thanks to Dr. Doiron.  God Bless and forever live in peace. He is survived by his loving wife, Lucille M. Lebel Harriman and his 2 sons, Mark & Johnny all of westbrook.   We love you Dad Visiting hours will be held on Friday, October 11 from 6 to 8 PM at Blais and Hay Funeral Home, a Memorial Mass will be at St. Anthony's Church Saturday at 10:00 AM.   Online Condolences may be expressed at blaisandhayfuneralhome.com
