PORTLAND-- Claudia Atkins Quatticci, 79, passed on to heaven from a local nursing home on Friday January 18, 2019 after a long decline due to Alzheimer's disease. She was born on April 21, 1939 and raised in North Yarmouth by Arthur and Edith (Britt) Atkins along with her sisters Elsie and Beverly. She graduated from North Yarmouth Academy in 1957 and was active in the community for much of her life. She did a variety of things in her youth from playing piano for services at her church to managing the "red phone". Her father was fire chief and they had one of the few "red phones" in town to handle emergency calls and someone had to be near at least one at all times. She went to Comptometer school and got a job at Calderwood's Bakery in Portland where she met John Quatticci. They were married in 1967 and together they were active in the North Yarmouth fire department for many years. She served on the Ladies Auxiliary and was rescue chief for several years. She also (along with Carole Cleaves) organized and ran North Yarmouth Muster Day, which became Funday. They also managed twice yearly chicken pie suppers (with the help of the wonderful cooks in town!) at the old Grange Hall in town. Each was a benefit for the fire department or a needy family in town and hundreds attended each one. She and John raised three children, Amy, Art and Alan at their home in North Yarmouth. After her children were grown, she went to work in the lunch room at the Mabel I. Wilson school in Cumberland. She was a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and she is now comforted with her Savior. John happily entered heaven in 2010. She is survived by her sister Beverly; her children Amy Bibula of Gorham and her husband Steven, Art of Cumberland and his wife Gretchen, and Alan of New Gloucester and his wife Dee and nine grandchildren Austin, Grace, Faith, Dominic, Gabriel, Caleb, Noah, Leah, and Chloe. Thank you to the Barron Center who cared for her so well at the end of her life, from the Adult Day program to the dementia unit to the nursing home. We appreciate your love and concern for her. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 11am at the Windham Chapel of Dolby Blais & Segee, 434 River Road, Windham, Maine, where a period of visitation will begin at 10am until the time of service.
